Last Day of 06

At the end of a traumatic year it remains to say a massive thank you to everyone, whoever you are, from around the world... for making the Beirut Marathon Association races in 06 a fantastic success...

The World is Running to Beirut was our slogan... it became "For the Love of Lebanon"...

Anyway... just wanna wish you all a great New Year's Eve Party and enjoy yourselves as you prepare for whatever exciting things 2007 has in store for you...

All the best...

The Map of Beirut Marathon 07

So here is the first draft fellow runners...
The start is at Bichara Khoury avenue... down to Chatilla and then to Tayouneh
Tayouneh to Barbir and then to the Museum, down to McD's at Sami Solh and turn back to Tayouneh
From there to Mar Mikhael, (incidentally this misses two nasty hills that were between furn el Chebbek and Beirut Mall) and across to Galerie Semaan - there is a raise towards Galerie Semaan of about 200 meters... but not serious...
Turn to Chevrolet and then run around the back of Abraj Center and join the new road from Sagesse University
Run to the Sunday Market, but at the end of the new road turn left and first right, then follow the road to Fiat... after which you join Pierre Gemayel Boulevard to Borj Hammoud Bridge...
The bridge is a sharp hill, but very short, and the up is immediately rewarded with the equal in down... so it's okay...
then you join the all new part of the course which runs from the bridge along the seashore road out to Dbayeh... it is beautiful... there are mountains on the way out and the city view and sea on the way back
That brings you to 29k... the rest is up through Gemayzeh... sorry to say but there is a hill that really we cannot do anything about... Still gotta run the rest so will update you all when we finish...
Try running the marathon in bits... its amazing!

First 29k completed for 07 Marathon

Together with Wissam, the logistics and purchasing manager of the Marathon, we have began to run the track for 07... Beirut is a hilly city but together we have been able to figure out the first 29k without any hills... that was done through trial and error...

the other day we ran up the hill in Furn el Chebek and realized that it was just not fun... then we discovered this other road, a new one that goes along the side of the river - and it is flat! so we went for it...

still no solution about the bridge at Borj Hammoud... There is a flat bridge further down the river but it was washed away by a storm and has not been repaired... maybe it will be fixed by the time we get to measure the official track... hope so... we will keep you posted...

So all you Marathon runners of 07... take hope.. there can be a new record in Beirut 07... and hopefully a new Lebanese record...

End of the Year 06

So, first of all, welcome to my BLOG... it has been a long time in coming and I wish that I would have started earlier, particularly right before the war...

It would have been extremely interesting to be able to look back on the year and see what had happened in terms of emotions and events and to view the whole thing in retrospect... however, there is not time like the present to get started... so here we are...

The idea of the BLOG is to talk to you about the changes and developments at the Marathon as they are happening, so that you can have up to the minute news on the various activities and happenings...

I will be introducing you to the different characters and personalities around the Marathon, as well of course introducing you to my lovely wife and our two amazing dogs...

So, without more ado... welcome to the BLOG
